Aspiring students dream of getting into good business schools for
MBA/PGDM programs. However, top universities take admissions only on the basis
of the entrance test scores of the aspiring candidates. Many reputed colleges
and good colleges for MBA accept CAT
scores across India for eligibility. However, clearing CAT is not a
cakewalk. Detailed study and knowledge
of each topic are required to ace these exams and book a place in reputed MBA
colleges.
Here’s a list of dos one must follow while preparing and appearing
for CAT:
- Understand the Topics: For CAT applicants, a basic and detailed understanding of each topic
covered in CAT exam is required. This would help in proper scheduling of time
for each topic. In fact, proper knowledge gives a brief idea of how the paper
will be presented to the candidates.
- Begin with Easy Topics: Once you have gathered and collected all the study materials and papers,
you should prepare a proper schedule to allow proper time for each subject
depending upon their priority, syllabus content, and marks weightage.
- Take Mock Tests: Mock tests give a real-time view of how the question paper is set and
how the exam is conducted. Many CAT MBA colleges design and offer various kinds of mock papers. Aspiring candidates
should appear for such mock tests offered by universities. Putting oneself in
actual examination environment would test on our abilities and weakness.
Therefore one can work upon those weaknesses to avoid any kind of mistake.
- Focus on Analysis not
Numbers: Instead of counting on the number of mock tests given, one should study
and analyze the mock tests they have already appeared for. This analysis would
help in working over our weak areas.
- Practice: Regular practice would help in improving our problem-solving speed. This
would also help in curbing unnecessary nervous during the examination time.
- Maintain Accuracy: In order to rush and to complete the question paper within the given
time, one must not compromise with accuracy. CAT follows negative marking where
each correct answer gets 3 points and each wrong answers allows for a deduction
of 1 point. Therefore, aiming for higher speed but degrading the accuracy would
result in negative marking.
- Focus: It is a tendency to get nervous on seeing the question paper, however, one must maintain calm and be focused. Unnecessary stress leads to failure.
One should always target for 100% percentile and work hard for it as targeting
less would further push us down. CAT not only measures hard work and
preparation but also measures intellect. With all these three combined, nobody
can stop you from achieving your dreams. Keep these points in mind and ace your
